Vic: Almost 70 illegal workers found in northern Victoria

MELBOURNE, Feb 16 AAP - Almost 70 illegal workers and overstayers were found in northern
Victoria, Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone said today.

Immigration staff visited the towns of Nathalia, Murchison, Yarrawonga and Numurkah
today and yesterday, and found 19 people working in breach of their visas and 49 who overstayed
their visas.

Of those, 49 were Malaysian, 17 Thai and two Cambodian.

Ms Vanstone said they were taken to the Baxter immigration detention facility.

She said the department found more than 20,000 people who overstayed their visas or
breached visa conditions in the 2003-04 financial year.
