Vic: Man to be charged over allegedly hit and run in Coburg

MELBOURNE, Aug 19 AAP - A 21-year-old man would be charged over the death of a pedestrian
after a hit and run accident this week in Melbourne, police said today.

The man spent the afternoon helping police after arriving at a suburban police station
about 1.30pm, a police spokesman said.

He had been released but would be charged, he said.

Details of the charges to be laid and the man's court date had not been released.

Shortly before 10pm on Thursday, 26-year-old Recal (Recal) Rana, known to friends and
family as Reggie, was hit by a car as he crossed the road after leaving a Coburg milkbar.

He died in Royal Melbourne Hospital that night.

Police said the impact carried him some distance along the road.

Police had called for witnesses and at an appeal, made with a friend of Mr Rana's family
yesterday, sought a a metallic blue or silver car with a black front grille and possibly
a broken headlight or windscreen.
