Vic: State s most senior public servant resigns
Victoria's most senior public servant, Department of Premier and Cabinet secretary
BILL SCALES, has resigned.
He will leave the post on June 30.
Premier STEVE BRACKS, who announced the resignation, has praised Mr SCALES for what
he called his dedication, skill and impartiality.
In a statement, Mr BRACKS says Mr SCALES's efforts to ensure a smooth transition after
last year's election were a testament to his professionalism and integrity.
Mr SCALES became secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet in March 1998,
after six years at the helm of the Industry Commission.
He succeeded ELIZABETH PROUST, who resigned half-way through her five-year contract.
Former premier, JEFF KENNETT, described Mr SCALES as a very independent person.
